Typical Brownfields Sites Print E-mail

There are a variety of potential Brownfields, including abandoned:

  • Textile Mills
  •  Light and Heavy Industrial Operations
  • Automobile Service Stations
  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Machine Shops
  • Dry Cleaners
  • Junkyards or Salvage Properties
  • Landfills
  • Furniture/Wood Processing Operations
  • Chemical Plants

Some Brownfields may be contaminated and pose hazards for communities and surrounding properties. The purpose of the Brownfields Program is to determine the presence of hazards, ultimately remove hazards and reuse abandoned Brownfields properties. The Federal Brownfields Program addresses this with a Brownsfields Approach that includes assessment phases, clean-up of the property and ultimately the potential for reuse or redevelopment.
