PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments (UCPCOG) was designated as an Economic Development District (EDD) by the United States Department of Commerce - Economic Development Administration (EDA) on June 26, 1996.  This designation helps the region to work together for greater prosperity and for both the COG and member local governments to access EDA funds for public works and other key projects when jobs are being created and/or saved.

Since 1998 through current funded projects still in development,  the Planning & Development Services Department has helped 24 projects acquire over $25 million in grant funds that leveraged an additional $68 million of public project investment, over $1 billion in private investment, and supported the creation or retention of over 10,000 jobs.
