A critically important part of the services the Planning & Development Department provides to member governments and allies is grant writing and administration.  From individual communities to multi-jurisdictional partnerships, we have funding expertise for planning, economic development, community development, infrastructure, and other priorities.  Most of the work outlined on these Planning and Development Service web pages are grant supported in part or in whole. Therefore, as part of our regular course of business, staff assesses community and regional needs, researches, writes, and administers planning, economic, and community development related grants and loans from agencies and organizations including the NC Department of Commerce (DOC), NC Department of Environmental Quality, NC Parks and Recreation, The US Department of Commerce - Economic Development Administration, US Department of Agriculture -Rural Development, US Environmental Protection Agency, Golden LEAF Foundation, and many others to meet member local and regional needs and priorities.

Please note grant research and development services are generally provided to local government members and others on a contract basis for the time and expense required.  In some instances, usually where grant development costs are an eligible award expense, such fees may be waived. 

Use of staff for project and grant administration services is also very common due to our decades of experience in managing public funds and complex federal and state compliance issues.  The terms and conditions for these services vary by project, funding source, technical requirements and other factors.
