EPA Grant Efforts Print E-mail

Although the Upper Coastal Plain Brownfields Coalition as yet to receive a EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant, confidence remains high that given the needs of the region and ongoing work in brownfields efforts, applications will continue to be submitted and funding ultimately achieved.  Although the existing Coalition will play a vital role in carrying out the implementation of a grant, additional members (county and community governments within the region) will also be added.

During August 2010 an extensive field survey of the region was conducted by the UCPCOG in concert with support from an EPA contractor.  Numerous brownfields were identified in this inventory survey, and a variety of sites offered significant potential for assessment and committed near term redevelopment opportunities.  In addition, several communities will be added as new Coalition members.

Although not a current member of the Coalition, the City of Wilson received an EPA assessment grant in 2010, and the UCPCOG will look for ways to partner and assist them.
